On May 31 in 2025, the 5th day of the fifth lunar month is China’ s traditional holiday, Dragon Boat Festival. To continue promoting and improving “adhering to sinicization • conforming to righteous path” themed activities raising its depth and strength, and implement Chinese traditional festival works progress in all-around way, China Songshan Shaolin Temple keeps the tradition with rich content Dragon boat festival folk customs to spend the time together with believers of ten directions, meanwhile spreading and carrying forward fine traditional Chinese culture and feeling thick atmosphere of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday.
On May 12, 2025, sandalwood-scented smoke hung in the air above Shaolin Temple when Buddhist chants were melodious. The Water and Land Dharma Function in Yisi Year took 7 days to complete Buddhist rituals regardless of day and night. Dharma masters led lay Buddhists to make boundaries, send out invitations, invite and offer sacrifice to holy ones from the heaven, invite and offer sacrifice to all beings or spirits from the lower world, dedicate merits, pay respects and repentance, provide offerings to the heaven, confer precepts of the nether world, release souls of the deceased, and practice meditation with efforts. There are all the four classes of saints and the six realms among the all spirits of existence, made offerings universally. The Water and Land Dharma Function helps sentient beings make vows, release from suffering and attain enlightenment. On May 8, 2025, the 14th Water and Land Dharma Function of Shaolin Temple entered the third day, according its Buddhist rituals to launch the inner shrine, send out invitations to spirits and holy ones, hang Buddhist flags, preach doctrines and dharma teachings and benefit sentient beings and gods early in the morning.
On May 5, 2025, to celebrate the birthday of Sakyamuni, Buddhist flags hanging, the bell ringing and the drum rolling, China Songshan Shaolin Temple grandly launched the 14th Water and Land Dharma Function. The Buddhist ritual originating from Emperor Liangwu of the Northern and Southern Dynasties is one of the grandest rituals in Chinese Buddhism with the longest time during the Han Dynasties, and also the most unique Chinese Buddhist ritual after its introduction to China.
On May 5, 2025, the 8th day of the fourth lunar month in Yisi Year, to celebrate the birthday of Sakyamuni falling on traditional Chinese solar terms-the Start of Summer, Shaolin Temple, the ancestral monastery of Chan sect, grandly held the Buddha Bathing-Day assembly to bless sentient beings with sharing Buddha’ s grace, refreshing mind and gaining supreme wisdom and peace. The Buddha Bathing Festival is held on the Birthday of Buddha, and also one of the grandest festivals in Chinese Buddhism. To follow teachings left by Buddha, take precepts as a teacher, carry on Buddhist rules and continue passing on precepts, from April 28 to 30 in 2025, China Songshan Shaolin Temple invited abbot of Shaolin Temple master Shi Yongxin as the Precept-Acharya, Shaolin Temple’ s west seat master Yongfu as the Karma-Acharya, and the Meditation Hall’ s first seat of Shaolin Temple as the Teaching-Acharya, teaching lay Buddhists Mahayana Bodhisattva precepts. A total of 132 disciples asked for pure precepts, dharma benefits and enlightenment together.
