In 2004, California state assembly passed a bill making March 21 the California Shaolin Temple Day each year. On Mar. 17, 2019, the 2019 California Shaolin Temple Day celebrations, hosted by Buddhist Association of the United States and co-sponsored by United Kungfu Tournament and Shaolin Association of North America, were grandly held in Shaolin Temple Cultural Center USA.
On the same day, heads and students from Shaolin cultural centers in Monterey Park, Temple City, Walnut, Chino Hills City, Rancho Cucamonga, San Diego and other cities, as well as Shaolin lovers gathered to jointly celebrate the hard-won cultural festival and spared joys Shaolin Chan Wu (meditation and martial arts) culture brings.
Shi Yanxu, head of United Kungfu Tournament and Shaolin Temple Cultural Center USA, introduced that similar celebrations today was held annually since Shaolin Temple Day was established in California in 2004, having been held for fifteen consecutive years so far. The celebrations were themed Chan (meditation), Wu (martial arts) and Yi (medicine) to attract Shaolin culture lovers and Shaolin Kungfu practitioners. There were not only overseas Chinese but also mainstream American among people, which witnessed Shaolin culture fondness degree among the public.
Zhuang Peiyuan, chairman of Chinese Chamber Association of Los Angeles, came to congratulate and indicated that California is the cultural metropolis in the US. Shaolin culture has been spread for more than ten years in many cities of California, which has been recognized and loved by the masses of cities and governments.
During the celebrations, students from around the California displayed Shaolin boxing, Shaolin weapons, Shaolin regimen and other Shaolin martial arts. The youngest performer aged 5. Besides Shaolin Kungfu demonstration, there were also Chan cultivation experience, health Qi Gong lectures, tea ceremony experience, lute-playing, Shaolin rainbow ceremony experience and others.
